Museum of Folk Culture of the Sudety Foothills in Pstrążna

The heritage park was founded in 1984 in order to save the traditional culture and wooden country architecture. It is picturesquely situated at the mountain side  overlooking  Śnieżka and the Karkonosze Mountain Range. Various buildings were reconstructed here, for example a brick inn, belfry, barn and on the very top a gorgeous windmill. Every cottage is richly equipped  with furniture and tools dating back to the 18th century  and connected with agriculture, handicraft and farming. There is also historic working smithy. In summer the museum organizes colourful folklore events.

The Church complex of the Skull Chapel and the Saint Bartholomew parish

These Polish Catacombs were built in 1776 and the chapel amazes us with its bizarre  interior. The necropolis of the contagious diseases and Silesian Wars’ victims from the 18th century features 3 thousand human skulls and bones. Even more, over twenty thousand  human remains rest under the floor in a vault. There is only one such an unusual place  in Poland and  altogether there are  three in Europe.

Visiting the Czech Republic

While resting in Kudawa Zdrój, it is worth planning on-day trips to the surrounding tourist attractions situated in the Czech Republic. The convenient city transport CDS Kudowa Zdrój -Nachod, the buses  go every hour, allows people without cars to visit the borderland Nachod.

The castle from the middle of the 13th  century towers over the centre of the city of Nachod. The spacious building with 5 courtyards rebuilt first in the Renaissance style, later in baroque, charms the visitors with an exposition of precious fabrics. Next to the castle there is a gallery with a collection of the 19th century Russian painting and the works of contemporary artists. The museum in the castle is open in April on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm and 12.30 pm to 4.00 pm, from May open every day apart from Mondays from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm and 12.30 pm to 5.00 pm, from September open until 4.00 pm and from October open on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm and from 12.30 pm to 4.00 pm. Entry: 35-50-80 Kc.

We recommend to see three interesting places in Nachod. The first place  is Saint Laurel church from the beginning of the 14th century. The second place is „U Beranka” secessionist hotel with a restaurant, café and theatre where there is an extraordinary curtain from the end of the 19th century. The third one is the neo-renaissance town hall – the seat of the city authorities. The regional museum is open on the Market Square, the history of the city  enriched with several models, one is 12 metres long, is the subject of the exposition. The Museum is open all year apart from Mondays from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm and from 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm. Entry fee 15-30 Kc.

There are military fortifications from the thirties of the 20th  century near the border with Poland. In the reconstructed N-S 82 bunker Brezinka, available for visitors, we can see working military equipment from the last century. Entry 20-30 Kc.

But probably the greatest attraction over the border is the place called the Rock Town or Adrszpach Rocks 32 km from Kudowa east from the town Teplice. It is an amazing nature reserve with gigantic upright rock formations, bigger than anywhere in Poland, making the impression of a natural rock town. Open all year from 9 am to 6 pm. Entrance fee 30 – 60 Kc plus 30 Kc for the boat ride on  the lake among the rocks.
